I’ve always been so against new years resolutions. Well I wouldn’t say I was completely against them, I’m just not the biggest fan. Why wait till the 1st of January to sign up to the gym, or make any other positive changes to your life? Although, I do love the idea of rounding up the year and reflecting on what I have achieved and setting new goals for the new year to focus on. It sounds about the same I guess? I’m not talking about starting a diet or joining the gym, I am more about continuing my growth as a person and looking forward to whats to come in the new year.
What I’m Wearing:
2018 has come around SO quickly, am I right? So so quickly. It only seems like yesterday that I wrote a blog post on here reflecting on how amazing 2016 was. 2017 has been pretty amazing, I started a new job as a designer and I am loving it, I have made so many amazing memories with my friends, especially this summer and I was fortunate enough to have two city breaks with George and go on a fabulous holiday with my bloody amazing BFF’s (excuse the cheese). I feel more myself than I ever have done. I have gained body confidence I never had, and I am now makeup free most of the time which is something I never thought I’d hear myself say. I’m even makeup free in these photos, actually!
I am so excited for 2018 and I am looking forward to some making some amazing memories next year. George and I have just signed for a flat which we will be moving into in January which is equally as scary as it is exciting. I have a feeling 2018 is going to be incredible, I just know it will be.
2017 was the year I officially got back into blogging and the year I started/attempted to vlog. My life got in the way of that area a lot this year, especially the fact that my commute the whole of 2017 was a two hour journey each way. Yes, I know… 4 hours a day more or less! I’d get home, eat my tea and head to bed in a very unmotivated and confused state, ready for the next day to end up the same. Our new flat is a 10 minute way from where I work.. bruicy bonus or what? So I can get home at a decent time and get cracking on this stuff. Amazing!
I have to say, even though that dreadful commute of two buses to the other side of Manchester was a v negative part of 2017, it did bring me something good. Early on in the year I invested in an old iPad mini which I bought off someone from twitter for £70 (the wonders of the internet, ey!) I then quickly bought a tablet pen from Amazon and downloaded Adobe Draw and there I was with my new found hobby, drawing on the bus. My journeys felt a lot shorter and I found my love of drawing again. I started drawing fashion drawings, drawings of people I knew, drawings for people to give to their loved ones as gifts, and I really fell in love with it. Although I wont have that crazy comute, I do plan on continuing this new found hobby, but this time it will be in the comfort of my very cozy, warm and lets face it, still flat. No more pressing undo buttons when the bus turns crazy corners anymore. If you want to have a nosey at my drawings you can find me on Instagram here: @laurafrancesfashion.
As well as writing regular blog posts, I also plan to vlog for real this time. I used to use my phone which proved to be very difficult. I’d run out of memory mid film and have to quickly delete whatever I could so I was able to carry on filming. It also wasn’t the best quality either. This week my Olympus pen arrived (wooohooo) I am so excited about it, Ive filmed a few videos already which will go in the first vlog of the year and I couldn’t be happier with it. I was apprehensive at first, but I got it on a great deal and I am paying it off monthly so it isn’t breaking the bank, and it is going to seriously motivate me! Winner winner chicken dinner. Weekly vlogs (if I have stuff to film as I sometimes don’t lead much of an exciting life lol) will hopefully become a regular thing and I am excited to be able to capture the whole moving in thing and our attempt to furnish the place on camera so we can look back on it in the future.
In 2017 I came out of my comfort zone and started to write about different things other than what I was wearing. This was really daunting to me as my blog and the (little) audience I have are used to fashion content only. But to my surprise, my most read post was a letter I wrote to my sixteen year old self, and it is probably one of my favourite posts I have ever written, too. I want to continue to write about a variety of different things on here and not be afraid to do anything different.
A big thing I haven’t ever wrote about and I really want to in the new year is my skincare. After struggling with eczema quite badly on my face this year as well as dry skin in general, I decided to go for much more natural options when it came to my skincare routine and boy it has paid off. I hardly spend any money at all on it and I think I’ll be able to pass this onto people that have either dry skin or eczema like me and hopefully help them too. I may even do a video on it – watch this space!
I want to finally pass my driving test. This is a MUST. With most of my evenings free now that I have cut my commute down massively, this is completely doable and I am determined to pass before the end of 2018. If I don’t I will be massively disappointed in myself. Massively I’m telling you!
This year I’d also love to visit some more European cities. I loved Brussels and Berlin this year and I really hope that Italy can be on the cards in 2018. A festival with the girls is a definite must… it wouldn’t be summer if I didn’t go to one with the girls would it?
All in all, I am so thankful for all of the lovely memories I have made this year and I am so excited for all of the great things to come in 2018. Thanks for sticking by me and reading my blog this year, I really appreciate any support I get on here and I have loved sharing content with you in 2017. See you in 2018!
