Hola! Anyone else get back from a holiday abroad and want to greet everyone with ‘hola’ and say ‘gracias’ to their bus driver? I’ve just got back from Benicassim and I couldn’t have had a better time! Shortly after I arrived back in the UK I was invited to an absolutely fabulous event. ibis Hotels have teamed up with Teenage Cancer Trust with the ibis Lates on Tour. I had the privilege of attending the gig when it came to the Manchester Portland Street Hotel and George and I were invited to stay which was a real treat! All proceeds from the gigs around the country go to Teenage Cancer trust. If you want to make a donation to the charity click here.
One amazing thing about the hotel is that is it weather themed (v fitting with it being in rainy Manchester lol). When you walk into the lobby you are welcomed with a silver pair of wellie door handles and the most spectacular ceiling filled with umbrellas. The giant deck chair was my favourite though, it provided Becky and I with a lil giggle after a few drinks.
When we got to or room, we discovered that the rooms are all weather based, too! Our room was a ‘sunshine room’ every bit of the room was based around this theme. We even got a pair of complimentary sunglasses each. For a budget hotel, the rooms were great and we fully enjoyed our stay, we both had a great night’s sleep after a few glasses of vino, even if I did accidentally lean on the remote and turn the telly on in the middle of the night!
So, onto the night… We had the privilege of going back stage into the Lates on Tour green room. There, we received complimentary sandwiches, other nibbles and drinks. We also got to meet the acts and tell them how amazing they were after the gig too. That’s one of the things I love about intimate gigs, you really feel like you are part of it all.
The gig was headlined by China Lane, who are actually from Manchester themselves. Neither George or I had heard of them before this event and were so overwhelmed with how great they were. They had been out busking in Manchester City Centre in the day which brought a huge crowd in that night. We absolutely loved them. I’ll link their Spotify account up here so you can check out a bit of their wonderful, feel good music.
Kenan Kian and Malunga were on before China Lane, and they were also incredibly talented. Both were the sassiest performers I’ve seen! If you tuned in to my Insta Stories on the night you will know exactly what I mean! I have a weekly vlog with clips from the night coming your way soon so I will link it here when it is uploaded and ready so you can also appreciate all of the sass and talent. Our ears were then treated to DJ Nikita who provided us with some fab tunes after China Lane. Each and every act blew us away and we are excited to see what the future has to offer them!
In between acts we quickly ordered some food at the Jamboree bar. Lucky for us, the service was quick and we were back in time to watch China Lane. George ordered the Sphinx burger, which is a white fish burger. We didn’t look properly at the menu and didn’t realise the coleslaw was a PEANUT BUTTER coleslaw. What a treat when you aren’t expecting it! I thought I’d go for some nibbles as I couldn’t decide on one main dish. As always, I went for crispy calamari; there literally isn’t a time I don’t get it if it’s on the menu! Gorj as always I must say. I thought I’d also go for the Serrano ham croquetas which pretty much overdid everything I ate this month. The creamiest, cheesiest thing to ever touch my lips. If you pay Jamboree a visit PLEASE promise me you will try them.
The next day we went back down to the Jamboree bar to have some of their breakfast buffet. I am not a big eater first thing in the morning so I din’t get to try as much as I’d liked, but I had a delicious bowl of yogurt and mango with some delish granola. The spread was incredible and really well presented too. The fresh morning daylight shining through the windows meant that I had a great opportunity to photograph the place!
I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel; we will definitely be back again! Thanks so much to the team at Splendid Communications for inviting us along and for such a warm and loving welcome, and to all the ibis staff who were equally as lovely and welcoming.
